This is almost as funny as the tea idiocy at Overstock! Go to this product page at TigerDirect. Click on the Splinter Cell CD (it's the green one)... You'll see.

Not sure if it's actually them, but the image of that Splinter Cell cd has been removed from their site, so I am removing their image from my blog just in case, but it's rather ironic how they want their copyright to be respected. Funny that.

You can still go to that very same product page, but now click on the light blue CD which has the same problem as Splinter Cell.......

Went out bar hopping on friday, but the rest of the weekend was spent on trying to get my "repaired" motherboard to work. The thing wouldn't even POST! Crap! Then I noticed a small indent on top of the CPU and I am not sure whether it was there before or not. Maybe I managed to drop the heatsink on it at an angle when installing? Who knows, but I gave up and placed an order for new hardware (just give me an excuse to whip out that credit card!).

After doing some research I decided to go the AMD route. Ordered the Athlon 64 X2 4200+* processor. That's right - dual core. Cause, you know, it gets pretty annoying when all those pop-ups slow down your pr0n browsing. But seriously, this processor should be nice for compiling source and doing actual work. Supposedly future games will utilize the dual core as well. Sweet.

The motherboard is an Abit AN8 Ultra NF4 Ultra, which is decent, but deserves only a mild applause, because real men don't get too excited about motherboards. We get plenty excited about processors and video cards, though. Which brings me to the next item. The new video card is a Leadtek WinFast PX7800GT TDH MyVIVO Extreme. Mmmmm... Yes... I am salivating at the thought of playing Battle Field 2 with all the options maxed out. Nice. At $330 its a steal considering that it comes with 2 games (the latest Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia). This is going to be quite an upgrade from my ATI 9800 Pro (which actually cost me more when I bought it).

Yes, those are exciting times I am living in.

and on top of it offered a free Wine Stopper as a gift (along with other goodies). It's almost as if they knew that I was an alkie who bought quite a few bottles the day before, which included 2 bottles of wine. Sheeesh!

Flashback...

This page has a lot (a ton!) of images of different cassetes. Cool!

The above is an image of a russian cassete that was made in Moscow at a factory called "Gram zapis" and was sold for 3 roubles, 25 kopeks. Not that you care, but now you know.

Below is another russian casette. This one was made in 1981 and went for 4 roubles.

Seeing these brought back some interesting memories of bootlegged western music.

Trick or treat?

The apparent suicide of a woman found hanging from a tree went unreported for hours because passers-by thought the body was a Halloween decoration, authorities said.

The 42-year-old woman used rope to hang herself across the street from some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday, state police said.

The body, suspended about 15 feet above the ground, could be easily seen from passing vehicles.

State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham and neighbors said people noticed the body at breakfast time Wednesday but dismissed it as a holiday prank. Authorities were called to the scene more than three hours later.

"They thought it was a Halloween decoration," Fay Glanden, wife of Mayor William Glanden, told The (Wilmington) News Journal.

"It looked like something somebody would have rigged up," she said.

Hmmm...

Funny tasting tea

So, I am browsing through Overstock.com, where I come accross this set of Morrocan tea glasses. Cute, but scroll down and under the description it states:

Attention California residents: This product may contain lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Good thing I am not a California resident, I guess.

Bah..

Sorry for the lack of updates. Spent the weekend working from home and
spending some quality time destroying my liver with Grey Goose at a
friend's birthday. Then I watched the first 6 episodes of 24 (season 2)
on DVD. Such an unmitigated crap of a series and yet so deviously addictive :(

My repaired motherboard should be here on wednesday. W000t!

Defendant: G-d

TIMISOARA, Romania - A Romanian prisoner serving 20 years for murder has sued God for failing to save him from the Devil. The inmate claims his Baptism was a contract with God to keep him out of trouble.

"God even claimed and received from me various goods and prayers in exchange for forgiveness and the promise that I would be rid of problems and have a better life," he wrote in the suit. "But on the contrary I was left in the Devil's hands."

Court officials said the suit will likely be dropped because they're unable to subpoena God.

He should've tried an insanity plea.

A Russian mother-daughter team is suing the Viacom subsidiary for "emotional distress" allegedly caused by a case of miscommunication on the popular reality show "Date My Mom" - in which a male contestant chooses a daughter to date, based on her mother's sales pitch.

Fortysomething movie producer Irina Stemer and her 19-year-old daughter, Anastasia Camras, appeared on the June 23 episode. Speaking Russian, their lawsuit alleges, Stemer told potential suitor Jorgen Sampson: "My daughter has a very big heart."

But according to court documents obtained by the Daily News' Michelle Caruso, MTV's English subtitles translated: "Jorgen, there is no better piece of a- than my princess Anastasia."

Hah! Going on those shows is a humiliation in itself.
