Can't we simply deny him the visa due to his ties to Hezbollah - a group that's on our terrorist list?

Solidarity with Denmark rally

Just came back from the Solidarity with Denmark rally ,that's still taking place as I type this, by the Danish consulate in midtown. It's pretty tame - around 60 people with signs in support of Denmark and free speech. I snapped a few photos that I will post tonight. A camera crew arrived as I was leaving...

Terrorists get lynched in Basrah

According to Lenta.ru, 20 Iraqi militants broke into a prison in Basrah and kidnapped 11 foreign fighters who were held there. Ten of them were fond dead later on - three bodies were found in the center of the city, and seven were found south west of the city.

According to the Iraqi police, the dead were citizens of Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Terrorist act in Georgia

Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a "terrorist act," an Atlanta police official said.

One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad.

The custodian suffered ringing to the ears and was treated at a local hospital. The events led to a temporary evacuation Monday morning.

"It is a terrorist act at this point and depending on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well," said Major C.W. Moss of the Atlanta Police Department.

Demonstration on 45th st between 3rd and lex

Walked down the 3rd ave just a few minutes ago. There's some kind of a protest on 45th street, between 3rd and Lexington ave. People waving Cuban and Venezuelan flags. Praises of Castro and Chavez could be heard down the block due to their loud speaker. Oh yea, and the Viva La Revolucin. The odd thing is that they seemed serious!

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera on me. :(

Zarqawi captured?

(via Drudge) Dubai's nespaper al-Bayane is reporting a claim by its Kurdish sources that Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi has been arrested in the city of Baakuba.

While this could be just another rumour, Drudge points out that the claim has also been made on the Kurdish radio, which was the first to announce the capture of Saddam Hussein.

UPDATE

Drudge is nowreporting that U.S. military and intelligence sources are denying the report that al-Zarqawi has been captured.

Stay tuned... Might not be over yet.

If this comes out to be true, this would be a huge blow to Al Qaeda and the insurgency and a big, big, big morale boost for the Iraqis.

Bush wins!

Bush won the election, Kerry is about to concede (as per Drudge), and I am here at work listening to people whine. Its the regular stuff: "I can only imagine the damage that will be done to this country in the next 4 years" and "Clinton kept us safe", etc. My favorite is this one woman's labeling yesterday "Black Tuesday".

My friend reports hearing the following at her workplace: "moving out of this country", "i hate midwesterners", "he's a moron", "i will only listen to Kerry".

My other friend, who voted for Kerry, informs me via email:

"anyway, i am certain that majority of rep voters are farm hicks (just from the states that consistently vote rep.)"

and

"...most of the country are made up of farmers who don't even care or know about the issues. the only reason they vote republican is because they are against gays/abortions, etc and republicans keep telling them what good christians they are."

and

"i mean, think about it....all issues that republicans hold near and dear are a redneck's wet dream - stop abortions, prevent gays from seeking equal rights, guns for everyone, etc....."

Interesting comments from a member of a populist party. According to her, the majority of the Republican voters are "farm hicks"/"rednecks" who "don't even care or know about the issues".

Just voted. Went to the place I voted in 2000, they referred me to a different polling station - only 2 blocks away, so no big deal. No lines at either place, so I was in and out in a matter of minutes.
